'Good clothes develop a man's self-respect' was one of Montague Burton's beliefs when he established the Cross-Tailoring Company in 1903 to produce high quality made-to-measure suits at a reasonable prices. Production later shifted from suits to uniforms, and by 1929 Burton had four hundred shops, factories, and mills when the company went public.
Known as the largest multiple tailor in the word in 1952, Burton came a long way to becoming the official clothing supplier to the England national football team for the 1966 FIFA World Cup, UEFA Euro 1996 and the 2002 FIFA World Cup championships.
In 1998, the company was acquired by Arcadia Group owned by Sir Philip Green. Today, it is a staple on most high streets and a popular retailer for men's clothing, including casual clothing and men's hoodies, men's suits, shirts and jackets and gifts for men.
