Squid Game, Netflix's most adrenaline - pumping show of the year so far, has been renewed for a season 2.
Squid Game has also become the streaming service's most unexpected viral smash. The Show follows 456 scrawny characters who are whisked away to a mystery island and pitted against one another in a series of deadly playground activities, starting with red light, green light.
Only one player remained at the conclusion of the games: Seong Gi-Hun (Lee Jung-Jae), who spent the entire caring for the old Il-Nam, who – SPOILER ALERT – turned out to be the game's mastermind all along.
At this time, virtually little is known regarding Squid Game's future. Director Hwang Dong is shocked by his apocalyptic passion project's popularity. However, the first season left plenty of loose ends.
“There’s been so much pressure, so much demand and so much love for a second series… I almost feel like you leave us no choice!” Hwang told the Associated Press.
“There will indeed be a second series. It’s in my head right now. I’m in the planning process currently. But I do think it’s too early to say when and how it’s going to happen.” He continued by saying
After the recognition the show has gotten from people, the actors are very excited to meet the fans and interact with them.
Lee Jung-jae, the lead actor, has been working in Korea for almost 25 years. Now that he's recognized on the streets of the United States, his life has transformed. “That’s amazing, right? People just go around and say hello,” said Lee. “So I really don’t know how to respond to all the love. It’s so great to be able to meet the fans who have loved and watched the show so much.”
Hopefully, Season 2 will come as soon as possible because the fans have high expectations for the second season.
Because of such huge success for Season 1, but unfortunately, it’s highly unlikely for season one characters to return to season two since all of them met their end on screen.
But Hwang told the Associated Press “I will promise you this… Gi-hun will come back, he’ll do something for the world.” However, the nature of the character's comeback might be surprising.
