Lightning strikes a commercial plane approximately once a year, but an aeroplane has not been downed by lightning since 1967.
Planes have to pass safety tests that mean if they are struck by lightning the current flows through the exterior of the plane to another extremity point.
So if you are travelling in winter or during a storm, just cool down and don't worry.
